Why I Chose a Different Way

I grew up watching my mother suffer.

For as long as I can remember, medicine was a part of her life. One prescription became another, and another, and another. Doctors treated one symptom after the next, but somehow, she never truly healed. As a child, I didn’t have the words to explain what bothered me about it, but I could see that something was missing. No one seemed to be asking the deeper questions. Why was her body struggling? What was at the root of it? Why were we constantly managing sickness instead of pursuing true wellness?

Those questions stayed with me.

Then I became a young mother, and everything changed. Looking into the faces of my own children, I knew I wanted something different for my family. I wanted to learn. I wanted to understand how the body was created to function and how I could nourish my children instead of simply reacting when they became sick. I didn't want medication to be the automatic answer to every problem.

So I began to seek.

I studied essential oils, herbs, nutrition, gardening, and natural ways of caring for the body. What started as a mother's desire to protect her children became a lifelong journey. And the more I learned, the more I began to see God's fingerprints everywhere.

I began to see that the things God placed in the earth weren't random. The plants, herbs, foods, seeds, and seasons all pointed me back to the wisdom of the Creator. The Bible began to come alive to me in a different way, and I started to recognize the connection between faith, creation, stewardship, and caring for the bodies God entrusted to us.

That journey eventually led me to homesteading, gardening, herbalism, and nutrition. I wanted to return to a simpler way of living—to grow food, learn from the plants around me, nourish my family, and become less dependent on a system that had never made sense to me.

My journey isn't about believing that we never need doctors or medicine. It's about believing we should be informed, intentional, and willing to look deeper. It's about learning to listen to our bodies, understand the importance of nourishment, and seek the root of the problem rather than simply covering up the symptoms.

Most of all, it's about faith.

I believe God is the ultimate Creator and that He has given us incredible wisdom through His creation. I believe we were never meant to be disconnected from the food we eat, the land beneath our feet, the plants growing around us, or the bodies He designed so wonderfully.

What began with watching my mother suffer became a calling to learn a different way.

I chose this lifestyle because I wanted something different for my children. I wanted them to know where their food comes from. I wanted them to understand the value of growing something with their own hands. I wanted them to recognize the plants in the garden and understand that wellness begins with how we live every day—not just what we do when we're sick.

I'm still learning. I'm still growing. But this is the path God has placed before me: to cultivate, to nourish, to teach, to steward, and to share what I've learned with others.

This is more than homesteading.

It's more than herbs and gardening.

It's a way of life rooted in faith, family, and a desire to live closer to the way God intended.

Plant and Human Relations

All living things on this planet depend on plant life to survive. Just like humans, plants are living beings. They take in our carbon dioxide and convert it to oxygen through photosynthesis, playing an essential role in our breathing cycle by cleaning the air we breathe. This exchange of breath illustrates our connection to the natural world and source energy, whether called God, spirit, or a higher power. As allies provided by Mother Nature, plants nourish and assist us in achieving balance, emphasizing the profound plant and human relations we depend on. You can explore more about this fascinating connection on the Happyladieslife.com website.

Plants draw nourishment from the sun and soil, similar to how humans consume foods sourced from nutrient-rich earth. These nutrients within plants contribute significantly to our healing processes. Many plants contain chemical constituents that offer natural protection against insects, viruses, and bacteria. With a focus on holistic alternative wellness, the antioxidants and nutrient-rich compounds found in plants provide therapeutic benefits in the treatment of various diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, lupus, neurological disorders, and fibromyalgia. Moreover, these natural remedies offer antimicrobial effects and enhance immune activity against pathogens, underscoring the vital role plants play in our health—a concept well explored by practitioners like naturopaths.  That's were we come into play!
